What is a Business Improvement District (BID)?

A Business Improvement District (BID) is a business-led and business-funded body formed to enhance a specified commercial area. Within a BID, businesses collectively vote to invest in initiatives that improve their trading environment.

The lifetime of a BID is governed by regulations and is limited to a maximum of five years. During this period, a not-for-profit company, established and managed by businesses in the area, ensures that the aims and objectives of the BID proposal are achieved.

Currently, there are over 320 BIDs operating in the UK.
